Autonomous surface ships (MASS)

Maritime technological advances include autonomous ships. The IMO Maritime Safety Committee is drafting a MASS Code.

These ships must comply with COLREGS and pose legal and insurance challenges. The Panama Canal will likely adjust its strict pilotage regulations for unmanned ships operated by ROCs (Remote Operation Centers).
