Claims for maritime privileges

Panamanian law grants creditors who have provided services to ships the right to claim unpaid debts against the ship served. Panama is not a signatory to maritime privilege conventions, but Panamanian courts apply foreign maritime privilege laws after hearing expert testimony.

Once an international claim has been filed, the court determines the applicable law using the conflict rules of the Maritime Procedure Code.
